In these days of jazz-house, ambient dub and electro-acoustic hybrids, thank God
for some good old-fashioned techno. Redagain P's second album is pure electronic music,
conjuring up all the right images: Blade Runner, THX1138, Neuromancer. In fact, if
they ever make a movie of William Gibson's novel, this'd be a great soundtrack. Even the
titles - 'X-Clewats', 'Soid a Sonic' - conjure up visions of bizarre futuristic worlds.
So what about the music? Well, from the didgeridoos emanating from the electronic outback
of 'Tretcho Inc' to the nu-skool electro of 'Therapeu-Dance', this is the sound of the
21st Century rushing to meet us. It's little wonder that jungle, that most futuristic
of all musical genres, should surface on 'Cyclips' and 'Zoola Trique'. Much of the music's
built around a relentless sequenced pulse, but it's miles from the musical dead-end
that was trance. Layer upon layer is built up on top of the beat, creating the kind of atmosphere
sadly lacking in most recent electronica. Techno for real people.
