May 10 1995 Hello!
Just a few words from the Mosti team.

To bring a sense of musicality into the world of high technology, a fundamental transference of emotion must be the goal. Entertainment can be a culturally non-specific medium, but to achieve this we feel the need to break away from concepts such as "band", "ambient", "trance" and all related catagorisational jargon. To this end, we no doubt have much in common with the
"Future Sound of London".

But is their aim to remove themselves from rock culture, away from live performance? You cannot shun the environment responsible for your very existence. We feel you have to work within the constraints defined by politics, fashion, morals, not just personal, but global. To follow the , to contribute not react, to add not detract, to be accessable, a service in the form of entertainment that is relevent, not decontextualised, that has meaning given to it by society. Thus a compromise must be found between the performer and listener interface, otherwise isolation and lack of communication will result. After all, surely pleasure from music comes from communication.

A chronology would be painfully short. We have existed for 18 months, and in that time we have moved direction only physically. Having carved the niche of our public face, we are yet to have anything commercially released. Positively, this has enabled us to freely explore our musical preferences, and negatively it means that we are confined to hobby status with an art form worthy of more. Simply, time does not allow for a full time hobby.

Moosefactory is the current definition of Mosti/ . Cumulus was a period of personal transition and musical consolidation. Krankenhaus was a reaction to this, and Nimbus, well that's just Nimbus! I guess it's all kind of personal in its origins, but the result is for the listener to judge (if you must). Currently, we are working on two new tracks, to be performed next month, live. Live, to us, means communication designed for specific occasions, no DAT. While DJs explore musical boundaries in clubs, the aspect is on the performance. With performance comes compromise, and that's fine. To transfer a sequence to 2 pairs of hands would be a laugh. To DAT a gig would be a con. To throw it all down the telephone would be fun for a day, to use multiple ADATS would be a DJ's dream but a composer's nightmare. There is no escape.

We hope you were interested by the extracts. They represent a selection from Nov 94 to March 95, recorded with a range of equipment (Moogs, Roland SHs, Roland S760, TR808, TR909, TB303, Akai AX73, Alesis Quadraverb & compressors, Yamaha TG500 & FB01, U110, Zoom 9120, Soundcraft Spirit Studio etc.)
